Evergreen International Aviation Organizes Drive for Relief Supplies

McMinnville, OR—Evergreen International Aviation will put its decades of transportation logistics expertise to good use this weekend as it organizes the collection and delivery of relief supplies to areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. Evergreen will donate the use of a Kenworth freightliner truck normally used in Evergreen’s ground logistics operations, a 48-foot refrigerated trailer used for Evergreen Agricultural Enterprises products, and a driving team to transport relief supplies. The truck will be loaded with donated supplies at the McMinnville Armory, 333 Armory Way in McMinnville, between noon and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3. Organizers have made a special request that those willing to donate bring desperately needed baby formula and diapers to the Armory on Saturday.

Cedar Canyon, a bottled water company with two locations in Oregon, is donating 30,000 bottles of water that will be loaded on the truck Sunday, September 4 at Cedar Canyon’s location in Forest Grove. The truck will leave for its cross-country trek immediately following loading.

Evergreen is already involved in the rescue and relief efforts, as a large fleet of Evergreen Helicopters’ aircraft has been dispatched to aid the gulf coast. Evergreen Helicopters are supporting a number of government and private organizations, providing lift for people and supplies. Missions include: rescues, transporting such necessities as water, food, and fuel, and bringing support crews in and out of the area.

According to NBC News, Katrina has taken the lives of more than 125 people, has caused devastation through three states, and has damaged the lives of hundreds of thousands of victims.

"We are glad to be providing our aircraft and ground transport equipment to act as angels of mercy in these efforts," said President of Evergreen Helicopters and Evergreen Agricultural Enterprises David Rath. "We plan to have our fleet there helping with everything from rescues to reconstruction."

Evergreen International Aviation has a long history of helping those in need, with a division devoted to local and international humanitarian and relief projects, Evergreen Humanitarian and Relief Services. Evergreen Humanitarian & Relief Services is a non-profit organization founded by Delford M. Smith to expand Evergreen International Aviation’s on-going legacy of supporting local and international humanitarian projects. The foundation’s goals include: partnering with other nonprofit organizations, corporations, and governmental agencies, providing aviation support for relief projects, and assisting developing countries to improve/deliver healthcare, eradicate disease, and promote economic development.
